De Tielsa in aanbouw The ship had to meet a lot of specifications, which in some cases were conflicting. Good relation between length and width, sufficient stability and good surfing qualities.

The shipyard "Jachtbouw Noord Nederland" had experience with the building of steel multi-bended-frame.

Johan Elsenga , head design of "Jachtbouw Noord Nederland" made the drawings of the Tielsa, taking into account the input of Dirk Nauta. One of the first problems to solve was the thickness of the steel. When the weight was taken into account it should be 5mm max. But this should not be strong enough. To meet these requirements Corten-steel was chosen, which is stronger and more stable, but more difficult to process. One extra advantage of Corten-steel is the resistance against rust. It forms a tiny layer of rust and then stops due to the 10% copper which had been added.. It acts about the same as aluminium.
Tielsa in aanbouw not feel the back stroke of the rudder but without loosing the feeling. In the front of the ship is an special department for the sails which can be locked up with a door in case of emergency

Tielsa DesignkeukenThe accommodation is simple but with a high standard of comfort. By using lightweight wood the weight was kept down.
Besides the design kitchen build in by the sponsor Tielsa is a comfortable dining space and an navigation table present. The beds are simple but comfortable.
