The in 1977 young designer Johan Elsenga working as chief designing on the shipyard  "Jachtbouw Noord Nederland" made the drawing of the Tielsa. 
Johan Elsenga started his career 1968 as designer with "Vripack Jachting" in Sneek Netherlands. 
In 1972 he joined "Jachtbouw Noord-Nederland" as chief designer.
It is here where he made the the drawings of the Tielsa, at that time the largest steel ocean racer of the world.
